"How fascinating it is that there are millions of people all over the world who are wide awake at 4 am missing someone. And there are millions of people sound asleep at 4 am, with no idea that they’re being missed."

My favourite looks from Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2014 (look at the rest of the collection here)
On only the second day of Paris HC week the Heaven’s truly opened up and graced us with this collection! There is not a piece that I do not love which is extremely rare, it seems that Raf goes above and beyond for each individual garment which is one of the reasons I love him so. The true heart of this collection dealt with bringing the essence of the past into the future, which was executed perfectly as it is one of the things Raf does best; he reinvents vintage designs and combines them with up-to-date and out of this world ideas, my favourite being the Edwardian style robes, petticoat inspired gowns and the taffeta jumpsuits which gave a off a futuristic space vibe (in the most Couture way possible). Featured was an icy subdued palette of powder blue, pale pink, and almost white creams along with cool darks of navy and black which made the show look like a winter wonderland, and when the light reflected on certain gowns it revealed a secret beauty that you can only see from up close; silver patterns printed of Parisian architecture on one white dress in particular, and miniscule iridescent sequins and gems gathered into the shapes of flowers. This eye for detail made the dresses seem as individual as snowflakes; each embellishment along with it’s embroidery and microscopic metallics proving its one-of-a-kind worth after being made with the upmost handiwork. I see Raf’s collections as a continuation of the one before, always innovating, always moving forward, this was no different except I was pleasantly surprised to see more experimentation of silhouettes and even the use of fur coats, which reaffirms the effortless elegance and minimalist glamour of the French house. Raf Simons has been at the helm of Christian Dior for 2 years now and even though that is a relatively short time his vision is already undeniably unmatched, which is why I have no reluctance in saying that this is the best collection to come from Raf at Dior yet - truly magical, just as Haute Couture should be.
